Getting ready for our Disney Side @Home Celebration/Birthday Party

I was ecstatic when I received the email that I had been selected to host a Disney Side party. I couldn't believe that I had been selected since I was probably one of the very last people to register before they closed the link.

We could hardly wait to get our package in the mail and open it to see all the goodies inside.

We were so excited about all the fun things that we got. My head started flooding with ideas for the party. Here was my first attempt at the Wilton Mickey cake:

Here are a few tips for anyone attempting to make this cake:

1. Follow the detailed instructions that came with the cake pan and do not skip any steps.

2. Use Crisco to grease the pan and make sure you cover all the crevices and then dust with flour. I forgot to do this for this cake and I had to recreate Mickey's face without the guidance of the lines.

3. You must cover the cake with a thin layer of frosting or the decorative frosting will bleed through the cracks and the frosting will not stick to the cake properly.  If you forget this step, you can still gently scrape the frosting already on the cake and re-start decorating by covering the cake with a thin layer of frosting.

This is the sample for the "My Family Tree of Life" activity that I made for our guests. I cut extra leaves and used them as "confetti" for the table. I used a different shades of green for each generation. Here is what the table looked like:

I made these cute Mickey pins by gluing Mickey brads onto regular push pins. I used permanent glue and let them dry overnight.

I used them to display pictures that we took throughout the years of the birthday boy and during our Disney vacations.

Here is a prop that was very popular at the party. I made it using foam core board and a mat cutter. You can buy black foam core at any craft store and I wrapped it in red felt and glued buttons on the bottom to resemble Mickey's pants. I used foamie for the ears.

Lastly, this wall decor was super fun and easy to make. It's just 12x12 paper shaped into cones and taped together. Can't get any easier than this!

I can't even tell you how excited we all were for this party. We had been posting pictures of the preparations on Facebook, and Instagram and all of our friends knew and were anxiously waiting to attend it.
